Planting a tree, knowing you won’t get to sit under its shade is the true meaning of life.

Living amongst plants and trees, tending to them has been the way of life for millenniums together. And suddenly, with modern technology, high-rise buildings, and a sophisticated lifestyle, you and I forgot what living with nature is

Tons of health issues like obesity, weak immune, mental stress, and anxiety could be the effects of leading a life away from nature.

Many studies have now confirmed that gardening might have the answers to most of the modern problems. Modern problems now needn’t have modern solutions. Ancient ones do well too.

We are and will always be a part of nature. And despite living in high-rise apartments, we would still smell home within nature.

The easiest way to come back down to earth is through Gardening. And there are loads of benefits to that too.

GOOD FOOD GOOD LIFE:

Ever since agriculture was revolutionized, the quality of food went down. To feed billions of people, chemicals and fertilizers became mandatory. But if you can grow them just for the people under your roof, you can grow organic, nutritious, and fresh food and stay healthy forever.

ANXIETY WHO?

Mycobacterium vaccae is an ambient bacteria found in the soils. A study conducted on rats showed that exposing them to this bacteria reduced anxiety in them.

It showed that contact with these ambient microbes is necessary to properly function your behavior, emotions, and health.

You can get exposed to them while gardening. And that is why your mood significantly improves after being in the garden.

RELATIONSHIP & COMPASSION

People who care for nature, care for others. As said earlier, we are all a part of nature. The more time you spend tending to your plants, the more you will begin to tend to people around you. Because now you’ve begun to associate people with nature.

DIRT IS GOOD

Being sophisticated and keeping yourself squeaky clean might seem like the way to be healthy. But it is actually counterintuitive. This is called the Hygiene Hypothesis. People who are more exposed to dirt have better immunity than those who use sanitizers every 5 minutes. This is because having a symbiotic relationship with microbes will help you adapt to their environments and protect you against pathogens.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY. Duh!!

Digging the soil, planting, watering, manuring, and then harvesting are intense physical activities. Your body moves, and you shed calories. When the goal is to work out it gets done with gardening itself. You don’t have to separately hit the gym. ( except if you want to build your body).

Most importantly, you are under the sun during gardening. This means more Vitamin D, more calcium, healthy bones, more strength, and MORE GARDENING :P

SHNRIN — YOKU

Shinrin — yoku is a Japanese word that means Forest bathing. This was introduced in Japan to encourage a healthier lifestyle by taking a walk in forests. This practice disconnects you from your busy life and lets you immerse yourself in nature and gives you therapeutic benefits that a spa can’t. And your garden is just fine if not a forest.

Nutritious, tasty food, a workout, therapy, a spa, and most of all, a home are all possible with gardening. You don’t need restaurants, a gym, a spa lounge anymore. Gardening fills all your needs.
